Aerobics in St. Petersberg

We were booked by the travel agent into a 3 star hotel called the Dashkova Residences. It is reasonably central in St. Petersberg but it is not for sissies. We have a 6 flights of stairs to climb to our floor. On entering our garret room, we were met by a large notice that said this was a non-smoking hotel and if you did smoke it would cost you 5,000 rubles ($110) for special cleaning. Perhaps it is especially difficult to replace the lingering cabbage smell.

This is our third day here. We have had torrential rain for the first two days. There are oversized downpipes on all the buildings that empty out directly 0nto the sidewalks.

We did a bit of a walking tour prior to the game that we had tickets for tonight - Sweden vs Switzerland. here are some of the sights.

St Isaacs Cathedral

Segway tour in Palace Square

Winter Palace/Hermitage
There was two mile hike to the stadium from the Metro. Then there was the 300 steps up to the top tier where we were expecting oxygen masks and a zip line to the other side for entertainment. The
Swedish fans made a ho-hum game fun.

  1. Ah but the treat at the end of the evening was a wonderful meal at a terrific Georgian/ Uzbeck restaurant complete with a very nice bottle of Georgian red, dumplings, ribs and potatoes cooked in Georgian clay pot, pilaf and stuffed red peppers. And with tip only about $75!
