70% of Russians are religious

Two days ago we had a whole day with nothing planned so attending to laundry seemed in order. There is no laundry service at the hotel so the front desk directed us to a place behind the Metro station. We packed up our dirty duds and set off on the 20 minute walk. Eventually down a quiet alley where men were relieving themselves, we saw something that looked like an 'Alterations' sign. It led us down some stairs and along a narrow passage covered with AstroTurf, trinkets and gee-gaws. A woman sat at the end of the passage. Looking around we could see no washing machines although there did seem to be evidence of sewing. She said she could have our clean clothes ready by Monday. This timing didn't work for us and it seemed a bit risky committing half our stuff to an "iffy" proposition so we carried it back to the room.We did one heck of a lot of handwash and strung it around the bathroom on a bungie cord that we had brought for the purpose.

Yesterday we had our "Tours by Locals" trip to The Holy Trinity of St. Sergius Lavra and a visit to a wooden house - both 70 kilometres outside Moscow.

  1. It's best if I don't comment on religion or other dirty laundry.

  2. Sorry you had to hand wash your dirty laundry but then that’s what Favid Eby has to do and there’s a lot more of it here it seems. Beautiful pics!
